Is this attitude common in academics?

it's college.. half the professors are nuts. They're smart of course, but i've had my fair share of lunatics as well. I have no idea why they're like that but I assume it's based on the professors they had in the past that influenced their current actions. once you become so knowledgeable your opinions become stronger and more ingrained in what you do.
