I was charged with grand theft of an automobile but it was my friends car?

i was arrested after i fell asleep behind the wheel i crashed up my friends car did about 2 thousand worth of damage. shortly after i was arrested the police showed up at my friends house where he was asleep and asked if he knew his car was involved in a accident and he said thats not possible the cars in the drive way when he went to look it wasnt there the cop asked if he had given permission and he said no and the police said they apprended a suspect and described what i was wearing and my friends goes oh yeah he was here we had a little get together and some of us were drinking he wanted to go home but since some were drinking he couldnt get a ride we all went to bed around 2 and then he realized like the car i wasnt there so i was arrested for grand theft of a automobile when i posted bond i called my friend and asked if he remember me asking about borrowing the vechile and he said yeah actually i do you came in my room early this morning asking to borrow the car but i was half awake and from drinking the night before it didnt occur to me that when the officer came in the house and told me my car was in a accident you asked me and i didnt know you were leaving so early so i thought you were still here. and i reminded him that me and another person were supposed to be going fishing at 6am. so it turnedd out to be a big misunderstanding and my friends just wants me to help repair his car and he definately doesnt want charges pressed againt me but with it being in the states hand should it get dropped my friends going to the state attorneys office to fill out some form saying he doesnt want to press charges and hes going to go back on his statement and say you know what i was drinking last night and it was so early in the moring i was barely awake and it didnt come into mind that dillon had asked me about an hour before if he could take it and i said yeah and went back to bed. theres no lying involved he just needs to set the record straight so i dont end up with a felony over a misunderstanidng
